Client: Nextcloud Client 2.3.3. on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Server: Nextcloud 13.0.0 on FreeBSD 11.1

The client freezes without any reason during sync always at one specific point

  • There is no information about the error, there is nothing in the logs
  • No ui-interaction after that (ui also totally frozen - if the client is opened, you can't close the ui - the menu at the tray-icon is also not working anymore)
  • Client can only be closed by killing the process via console command "kill"
  • Client loses it's password for the connection
  • After starting the client, the password has to be reentered
  • The client starts to sync and freezes again at the same, specific point (it seems to be always exactly the same amount of time, when it comes to a specific file or directory)

Workaround / Brake out:

  • After restarting the client, do not enter the password (the client will not start to sync and so it will not run into an error and freeze again)
  • Remove/delete the stored connection
  • Create and save a new connection to your server, but do not check the check-box which says, that it will clean up the folder. So you will be pretty fast in-sync again if there are no major changes in the meantime on the server.

What I probably did and why it might have come to this:

  1. The computer with the client on ubuntu which has this spezific problem was turned off
  2. On my Windows computer I moved some files (~200MB) from one folder within the nextcloud to anotherone
  3. I started my ubuntu client one day later and then I run into this problem

ps. The Windows Client still worked fine without any problems.
