As imaging technologies continue to develop, it is becoming increasingly common for volumetric images to consist of multiple channels of information to visualize different aspects of animal physiology or neural activity. Currently, the NWB schema only supports multi-channel imaging for 2D images using the RGBImage object. There is a need for additional data types to support multichannel imaging for both static images and image time-series. We implement this extension initially in C. elegans, but the need extends to imaging of other model organisms as well.
