NOTICE: ODPi Runtime and ODPi Operations projects are currently in Emeritus status at ODPi. If you are interested in leading this work, please reach out to the odpi-technical email list
Welcome to the ODPi Runtime Spec wiki! Here you can learn more about the project, what we release, and how to contribute.
ODPi is an effort led by Apache Hadoop distros, application vendors, and end users in the Apache Hadoop ecosystem for building a standard specification for Apache Hadoop distros to adhere to. You can learn more about it at http://odpi.org.
Each Approved Software Platform Release from ODPi has the following:
- The final set of ODPi specifications
- Testing harness for Hadoop distros to use for validating compliance
- Binary artifacts for the ODPi reference implementation and toolset for building an ODPi reference implementation for application vendors to test against.
We have a defined release process and schedule, and publish all our assets publicly for anyone to use.
Apache Hadoop distributions can become ODPi compliant, ensuring their product follows the specifications outlined in the ODPi specifications.
- Learn how to determine ODPi compliance
- See reports of which Apache Hadoop Platforms and Applications are ODPi Compliant.
One way you can participate in the ODPi efforts by helping PMCs drive the next release of ODPi by providing feedback on the spec, or providing tests for validating ODPi compliance:
- Learn more about how to give feedback on the spec
- Learn more about how to contribute tests for validating ODPi compliance
Another way you can participate is via a Special Interest Group (SIG) route. SIGs are meant to provide ODPi developers and big data practitioners a forum for exchanging ideas and doing the kind of exploratory work that can inform direction of PMCs.
Last, but definitely not least, ODPi has corporate sponsorship opportunities available if your organization is interested. Contact [email protected] for more information.

The ODPi techincal community is governed by a community elected Technical Steering Committee (TSC) who provides oversight and guidance to the various projects hosted by ODPi.
