[Research] Inventory existing visualization abstractions and APIs

As part of our effort to make the visualization UX more consistent, we've identified the need for better abstraction layers to improve the developer experience. In addition to asking the community for input (#2507), we also need to inventory the existing abstractions and plugins that already exist, so that we can distinguish between the development of new abstraction features and improvements or better documentation to existing abstractions.
