We now have node bindings for libzim which is far more efficient and nicer to work with than zimwriterfs.
I remember my original dream of creating some high-level generic compression library that could be used with zip2zim, phet-scraper, mwoffliner, and other similar projects. This might be a sensible thing to do soon...

As part of the dream how about making the software run well on OSX, linux and perhaps even Windows? I realise doing so will depend on libzim working on these OS's.
@ISNIT0 I quite support the idea of a node based scraper library to gather all the code in common for node based scrapers. That said we need to discuss a bit a name and a scope for such a new library.

This whole thing was a hack based on copy-pasted code from an old version of https://github.com/openzim/phet/
