fix whitespace-heavy menu structure

The menu layout stretches too far, making it difficult to find the desired item. It doesn't even resemble the layout prominently displayed on the GitBook homepage (left). My suggestion (right) isn't perfect, but it helps illustrate the point. Ideally, users should be able to add custom CSS. However, even with that option, the default layout still needs improvement.
