Hi @judr1001, Sorry that our increasing the minimum version we support has impacted you and others. The previous version of GitHub (1.148.0) will continue to work for iOS 15 devices. But yes, unfortunately, iOS 15 users will not be able to use newer versions starting from 1.149.0. For my understanding and to help inform our future decisions regarding OS version support, may you share your use case for remaining on iOS 15? What device are you using? If the device is supported by iOS 16, but you prefer to remain on iOS 15, why do you prefer iOS 15? Thanks a lot for the feedback and any follow up information you'd like to share. It is helpful in understanding our users. :) |

With version 1.149.0 of the mobile app, support for iOS 15 is dropped. The only notable change according to the changelog is that a new icon was added.
Changelog:
What is the technical reason that a different icon requires dropping support for millions of devices, like iPhone 6s, 7, SE1, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4?
Also, the way you wrote „Update“ makes it seem like this is a periodic thing done just for the sake of it to keep the app up to date or something. More accurate would be „increasing“ the minimum requirements, which better shows that this change alienates a specific subset of users. An app can be up to date and still be compatible with older versions of operating systems, and there are enough popular and advanced apps and games on the App Store to support iOS versions like 15, 14 and even 12 or 11.
GitHub is one of the only apps I know, apart from Apple‘s apps (whose minimum OS requirements like the Apple Store App are also arbitrary and in the best interest of the company to sell more new products) to require at least iOS 16. What is the new API or changes that make it impossible to run on iOS 15?
