Failure to install a conda package that makes use of gcc

I note that there have been a similar issue arising in 2i2c-org/infrastructure#144. I think their resolution was to install the package via conda that shipped with a pre-compiled version so that the compilation didn't need to happen at all rather than enabling the ability to compile as a user.
