Re-ignite this project

Never finished, but the idea was nice. This could still be a nice idea, though we should consider the platform to build on. Working with image data and Java might not be the best option, so we could start a fresh with perhaps another more suited language:

• Ruby (and Rails) would be a candidate, that works quite nicely with native image processing
• Golang could suffice too
• Rust if I'm feeling particularly experimental…
