I have an issue installing node-spritesheet on node 0.10.26, npm 1.4.3 and grunt 0.4.4.

I've read somewhere else that this bug happen when your grunt setup is using grunt-contrib-coffee. Maybe it could put you in the right direction.

I've gotten a similar looking message during install as well, but I don't use coffeescript in my project (though perhaps some of my dependencies do)?
