late with provider?

I ask me what is the best way to implement provider with null safety:

late UserData userData;

@override
  void didChangeDependencies() {
    super.didChangeDependencies();

    userData = context.watch<UserData>();

  }

or

UserData? userData;

@override
  void didChangeDependencies() {
    super.didChangeDependencies();

    userData = context.watch<UserData?>();

  }

but in the second case the question is how do i make sure that the value in the build function is not null.

@override
  Widget build(BuildContext context) {
    return (userData !=null) ? Container(
        child: Text(userData!.name)
        ...

whats the right way to do this? thanks
