I also cannot install the example extension. Steps to reproduce:

Unzipped.
npm install
npm run dev

$ npm run dev

Issue 1: there was no examples/github-trending/dist directory
Issue 2: since there was no dist directory, I tried pointing to the src directiory (where manifest.json was) and got this error:
