Spectral runtime and linting process?

Hello, trying to understand the process of how spectral Lints a document from a ruleset?

1. Does spectral lint through a document in sequence order to the rules in a ruleset?

or

2. Does spectral somehow lint through via the JSONPaths?

I notice in the output the rules sometimes are bunched together which makes me believe 1). Any help on this would be amazing thank you!
