retention in receiver vs frequency of uploading to object store

Hi again,
I don't understand very well how the retention policy in the receiver matches the frequency with the upload to object store....If retention is configured to 0d and on the other hand the blocks are upload to objeect store very 2 hours (not configurable), what happens with the metrics queried during this 2 hours? Are not they available until they are uploaded in the object store? or are they stored in the receiver always for 2 hours?
