Before Quire’s release as fully open-source software, you will be granted a license to use Quire by either completing our beta request form (now retired) or our new sign-up form. We have recently formalized the language for the license, which you will find below. The license grants permission to use Quire for free to create, produce, distribute, and sell digital publications, provided you credit Quire and the Getty. You also agree not to modify, distribute, reverse engineer, decompile, create other works, or disassemble the Quire code.

This License Agreement (“Agreement”) governs your use of the J. Paul Getty Trust’s (“Getty”) digital publication software Quire (“Software”). The Getty grants you a nonexclusive, royalty-free, nontransferable license to use Software to create, produce, distribute and sell digital publications (“Publication”) provided that you include the following credit notice in the Publication:
“This publication was created using Quire™, a multiformat publishing tool owned by the J. Paul Getty Trust.”
You acknowledge that Software belongs to the Getty, including all copyright, trademark, and patent rights. While the Getty intends to make Software available under an open license, the Getty is under no obligation to do so and has not yet done so. By using the license granted in this Agreement, you acquire no ownership interest in Software. You agree you will not modify, distribute, reverse engineer, decompile, create other works from, or disassemble Software. This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of California. THE SOFTWARE (INCLUDING THE CODEBASE AND ANY DOCUMENTATION) IS PROVIDED "AS IS". THE GETTY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, NONINFRINGEMENT AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. THE GETTY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE TO TESTER FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES OF ANY KIND OR NATURE WHATSOEVER, OR ANY LOST INCOME OR PROFITS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER ARISING FROM BREACH OF CONTRACT OR TORT, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH LOSS OR DAMAGE OR IF SUCH LOSS OR DAMAGE COULD HAVE BEEN REASONABLY FORESEEN.
