Turns out that IGN brought since January 2021, an open access to its DEM 1M (RGE 1 m Alti)
See the list of Zip related to french metropolitan regions available at 1m.

@nvkelso are you gonna add it at some point? There are a lot of issues in the current elevations in France.
On a side note because of that i am trying to generate hgt files in the same format as in aws https://registry.opendata.aws/terrain-tiles/. Is there a script/doc explaining how you generate those from geotiff?
