A user has reported that on our v18.0 Canvas appliance after enabling "Profiles", it is not possible to upload a profile picture.
This is being investigated and once resolved, a bugfixed build will be released ASAP.
mod_evasive seems to be a factor, albeit not the cause. Despite the tweaks to mod_evasive config - in turnkeylinux/common#305 - I think it best to disable it for Canvas.
It turns out that this issue was initially related to the background job runners crashing - and was also causing issues with themes and emails. That is now fixed, but the profile picture was still not working some times. Quite weird... Relaxing permissions seems to fix it?!
