Controller won't reconnect after reset

Whenever I reset, my controller disconnects, and won't reconnect until I close and re-open Project64 V1.6

Log says "RomOpen() call
Attempting to open a controller
Failed to open controller:controller is not null
A device has been removed
...it was the active controller
Closing current controller
Attempting to open a controller

of joysticks: 0

Couldn't find a viable controller :(
DllConfig() call
Attempting to open a controller

of joysticks: 0
