The version 1.8.1 you are using is very old. I believe the
bug you are experiencing is fixed in the latest version
(1.13.5). Please upgrade to the latest version of LinkChecker.

I got this version from fink, which definitely often has old
versions. If there's anything you can do about that, can
you get fink to get a newer version?

The fink maintenance page for linkchecker is at
http://fink.sourceforge.net/pdb/package.php/linkchecker
It seems 1.13.4 is packaged as unstable, but since I don't
use fink I am not sure how to configure fink to load
unstable versions.
