I've exited from the precontemplation phase and am ready to start thinking about putting effort into this project again. Although it's only been a few months since I last worked here, there are parts of this codebase that are over a year old; an eternity in terms of my programming skill and the Rust ecosystem.

The goal of this effort is to bring the platform into a state where it is again suitable for active development. The process of cloning the repository from scratch and setting it up for testing or development should be clear, straightforward, and robust. It should compile on the latest version of Rust Nightly on Linux without error.

This effort does not have the goal of fixing all issues that may exist or have arisen on the platform; those will be handled individually.
