Tectonic is a worldgen datapack and mod for Minecraft: Java Edition that rewrites the Overworld's terrain shaping, adding new features such as mountain ranges and underground rivers.
The mod version has a few things over the datapack version:
- A proper config file for configuring several aspects of Tectonic's terrain generation. These options are still available in the datapack but you'll have to dig into the datapack's files and make the edits yourself.
- Ocean Monuments are lowered 30 blocks to compensate for Tectonic's deeper oceans.
- Snow starts setting a configurable number of blocks (default 96) higher than in vanilla. This prevents the top of trees in biomes like the Old Growth Spruce Taigas having snow due to being higher up in elevation more often.
