Release Notes
In 2021, the European Union introduced the digital COVID certificate as an EU-wide recognised proof of vaccination, recovery or negative testing for COVID-19. This regulation expired on 30 June 2023. On a transitional basis, the EU will continue to operate the technical systems to enable cross-border certificate checks until 31 December 2023. The transitional operation will end on that date.
In Germany, the possibility of issuing digital COVID certificates such as vaccination and recovery certificates will therefore be discontinued on 31 December 2023. The CovPass app and the CovPassCheck app will therefore also be discontinued. The CovPass app will be switched to wallet mode, where the stored certificates will be retained.
What does this mean for you?
All functionalities will continue to beavailable until 31 December 2023.
From 1 January 2024:
- Your existing certificates in the CovPass app will still be stored on your smartphone.
- You will still be able to access your saved certificates in the CovPass app.
- You will be able to export saved certificates as a PDF ("Create PDF" function).
- You will no longer be able to add new certificates (we have removed the function for scanning certificates.)
- You will no longer be able to renew technically expired certificates in the app. Therefore, no reference is made to their expiry or renewal.
- Support for the app will no longer be offered.
- The apps will no longer be available for (re)download in the app store.
- No new functions will be published.

Information / Settings: In future, some menu items will refer to content on the website of the Federal Ministry of Health and will be marked as external links accordingly.

Checking rules: Information on the status of the Infection Protection Act § 22a on which the checking rules are based has been added for information purposes.

Contact/Imprint: The contact details can now be found in the legal notice and are stored locally rather than being a web view.

Update rules: As the endpoint we used to fetch rule updates from is no longer available, we store the latest rules locally so that the status quo is still usable. However, no more updates will be provided and therefore the feature to manually trigger updates is no longer available.

- "Check validity" removed: As the EU DCC Gateway is not up to date anymore and will not longer be maintained, we have removed the function to check the validity of certificates in various countries.

Main Features CovPass: 💉
- For better clarity at the individual certificate level, we have removed the text reference to EU entry rules via the Re-Open EU website within the check validity feature. General information can be found in the parent view. In addition, we have made a text adjustment and refer to the information of the German Foreign Office.
- From now on, the note about the currently used certificate will only be displayed for valid certificates.
Main Features CovPassCheck: 💉
- Due to the expiration of the Coronavirus Entry Regulation, we have removed the function of checking for entry into Germany from the app. From now on, only the vaccination status according to the Infection Protection Act IfSG § 22a can be tested.

It is now possible to use WHO Emergency Use Listig vaccinations to determine the vaccination status according to IfSG § 22 a.

- We adjusted the onboarding screens to only show what is currently still relevant
- To determine the vaccination status, we are now using the TSI Rules that we also implemented on the CovPassCheck app.

- The "What is New" Screen is now also shown in the CovPassCheck app
- Improved error handelling: When scanning certificates with deviating data (Name & Birthday) this is now explicitly shown.
If the birthday is the same and only name deviations occur, the deviation can be accepted. If the birth dates deviate, this can't be accepted. - We fixed compatibility issues for users using a Chromium browser
