Platforms? Units?

A platform is a set of hardware peripherals and the appropriate F4 pin configuration. This may be composed of the same board with a different pin configuration, as the physical layout is irrelevant to the system function.

A unit is a unique instance of a platform.

(Previously, I thought it useful to differentiate a platform as the physical board design from a variant as the system setup, but two different variants share nothing other than that they are the same physically. The firmware is agnostic to this.)
