3. Dependencies and Build Instructions

Following are dependencies for building from source code:

  1. VS 2017
  2. Qt 5.9.2: Download here.
  3. Qt VS plugin: Download here, and select C:\Qt\5.9.2\msvc2015 as Default Qt/Win Version not msvc2017 64bit.
  4. CMake GUI: Download here, for building VTK from source.
  5. VTK 8.0.1: Download here, please see the following section to build from scratch and do not use the binary installer on the internet.

3.1 Building VTK

We have to build VTk with QVTKWidget and OpenGL1 backend(default VTK binaries are with OpenGL2 backend and no QVTKWidget). Following are the settings of CMake (I set the source folder as C:\vtk_801 and build target folder as c:\vtk_801\bin):

  • VTK_GROUP_QT: TRUE
  • VTK_RENDERING_BACKEND: OPENGL

press configure again, and set:

  • VTK_QT_VERSION: 5
  • QT_QMAKE_EXECUTABLE: C:/Qt/5.9.2/msvc2015/bin/qmake.exe

press configure again, and set:

  • QT_DIR: C:\Qt\5.9.2\msvc2015\lib\cmake\Qt5

Click Generate and Open Project, then build in VS using Release Win32 settings. Then add C:\vtk_801\bin\bin\Release to your system PATH.

3.2 Building the Annotation Tool

Note that you should building the annotation tool using Release Win32 mode.
