John - any interest in moving the java generators to a separate project where you can iterate on them outside of the other generators (like the commons client)?

Otherwise PR welcome.

I think we may prioritize a full featured java client at end of year

No need to move it out. I'm happy to create a PR for this at some stage. I
just wanted to get the issue logged.
