AtomicServer has a Tauri-enabled desktop distributable. This does a couple of things:

  • Make it very easy to install AtomicServer (packaging)
  • System tray icon
  • Potential to add other desktop things, such as always-available search (was one of the main reasons for me to do this)

However, I'm not entirely sure about this whole use-case anymore. The desktop app runs locally, which means all data is not available from other machines. Ideally, we'd have some sort of 'local-client' mode which does keep track of changes locally, but also posts changes to some server at some point to make it available on the interwebz.

Some reasons to deprecate this part of AtomicServer:

  • Leads users to potential disappointment / wrong impression of what AtomicServer is good for
  • The browser app already can be locally installed as a client-only thing
  • Diverts attention away from making an offline-supported webworker in the browser app
  • Desktop-search is already possible using the Atomic Raycast extension

If you do want to keep using AtomicServer Desktop for some reason, please let me know here.
