I don't think this is really an issue for z2csl. I expect that this add-on
is used only by Zotero devs who should probably be running the unbranded
build anyway (how else can you develop otherwise?)

That is a good question. I thought that working with extension proxy files might be the most comfortable and easiest way. But there is no reaction the last 7 months from mozilla to my "bug report":
