As mentioned in the issue the
SettingsProperty
constructor ignoresserializeAs
parameter if it is notSettingsSerializeAs.Binary
, the regression caused by #50531 which allowsBinaryFormatter
serialization only when anAppContext
switch:System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.EnableUnsafeBinaryFormatterInPropertyValueSerialization
is set, and throws otherwise.The current fix is setting the
SerializeAs
property with theserializeAs
parameter when it is notSettingsSerializeAs.Binary
, though we might want to remove theAppContext
switch logic and throw forSettingsSerializeAs.Binary
as now theBinaryFormatter
is removed and accessing the property values throwsPlatformNotSupportedException
on serialization even if the switch is on. The related testSerializeAndDeserializeWithSettingsSerializeAsBinary
now throws PNSE on VS, skipped when run from command line.Fixes #104732
