Yes, this is a limitation at the moment. One challenge is how best to reflect the hierarchy in the resulting slide sets: Powerpoint has the notion of sections and of course you can have different slide masters that represent each section intros and so forth.
So there's a whole aspect of slide-to-master mapping based on both topic/topicref semantic and structural level that I haven't worked out yet.
But of course, the simplest default would be to simply make every topic into a generic slide, at least to start.
I vote for the simplest approach, the hierarchy in the DITA Map needs to be presented flattened out, one slide per topic, just like when it is output to PDF which is a contiguous list of pages.
If the DITA Map has a hierarchy of topic refs which is not flat slides are not produced for second level topicrefs.
