Since many people have a hard time getting the dependencies sorted and build, an Ubuntu package which could just be installed from a PPA would be very helpful.
Inclusion in the distro is not (at presented) a target.

The task can be done by anyone with linux shell skills. Ubuntu's packaging instructions are here:
https://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/packaging-new-software.html

The installation instructions in the user's guide (hopefully) list the correct package dependencies for Ubuntu.

We could also think about having a port on macports for espresso:
