Describe the Problem

The program that was running on the goeril testnet did not work on the substrate-based node.

This problem occurred when calling a contract function that causes a custom error.

I investigated and found that ethers.js failed to get revert name and errorArgs in the presence of data.

So I tried calling directly to the rpc and found that the error.message between nodes is different.

then I checked the process of handling errors in ethers.js, and in the process, I confirmed that I only handle errors if there is a "reverted" message.

but substrate-based node return only "revert". so i can't get errorName, errorArgs

when i running on ganache, throw below response

My ganache return msg only "revert" too. (v2.4.0 windows GUI) (now v2.7.1)

I've added support for the original error in this post in v6.6.2.

The ganache output is still super non-standard, so will likely not be picked up by this fix, and I'd need some better example to reproduce it. I do have a new experimental Ganache-based test provider, I will try replicating this in too.

If you guys give information about the rpc response, can process it faster.

For me, it was solved after changing "revert" to "revert".
