I LOVE this! It's very well written and gently guides the user into modifying a starter. I think users will love it!
I left a few small suggestions of things we could change, though it's already in great shape! A future project could be to ensure we have parity with theme docs explanations, e.g. for modifying a theme. There is a related issue of #18242...I wanted to connect the dots here for broader context.
Thanks for the PR, let me know if you have any questions or need clarification on anything!

Taking the default Gatsby starter as an example, dedicate some time to looking through some of the most important files in the repository (repo). You'll find most of these in the root (or _main_) folder of your project. Doing so will give you a clearer picture of how the various parts of your Gatsby site work together.

Love the image; it will help visual learners find their way around. It renders quite large on my screen compared to the surrounding text, probably due to a higher pixel density from a retina screen. I usually output images at 72 ppi from Photoshop to get them to render at a 1:1 in my browser, but CSS could also be worth a shot? I'm open to ideas. It will end up being a tall, skinny image, so you could consider showing more of the IDE to create a horizontal image.

Yes, totally agreed on the size issue. I went with showing more of the editor but blurred the rest of it out. I think this will give just a little more context and still keep the focus on the structure.

Elsewhere on the site, GraphQL queries access that data and display it in the browser. The `Layout` component, for instance, runs a query for `siteMetaData`'s `title` property. It then passes that value to the `Header` component via props: |

Try adding a property to `siteMetaData`, querying for it, and displaying the data on a page of your site. The Gatsby docs have a great introduction to [querying your data with GraphQL](/docs/graphql/). |

You may even choose a specific starter _because_ of its approach to styling. Search the [Gatsby Starter Library](/starters/) using category filters prefixed with "Styling:" and choose the option(s) that best fit your project.

We've talked at times about limiting links in the tutorial to keep learners focused. This one is really compelling to add, however, as it's relevant to the task at hand (and people asked us for it in a Getting Started unconference session). My instinct is to keep it in, as there isn't a very good spot for it at the end of Tutorial Part One. It seems like it fits the best here.

Thanks! I did see a note about avoiding linking away from the tutorial. If you hadn’t mentioned it as an option in the related issue, I probably would’ve left this out. Especially given that new-to-Gatsby folks seem to be wondering how to modify a starter (I asked around a bit before writing this), I thought it would be useful here.

Thank you so much, @marcysutton!! I started going through and approving the suggestions but I think I’m going to leave the rest until I’m back at a computer tomorrow (Monday) morning. I truly appreciate the thoughtful, thorough review! |

Thanks for your patience on this -- I think we should try one more take at the image here, especially since the previous paragraph talks about a "clearer picture". The sidebar is pretty small now with the whole VS Code interface; is it possible to crop it to the file list without the app buttons, header, or footer? I'd recommend keeping the file view area clear instead of blurring it, potentially with gatsby-config.js
open for additional context. What do you think of something like this (I couldn't seem to increase the sidebar font size independently from the file area)?

This is definitely an improvement. It's hard to fit it all in! I'd be good with this one, but I'll let @marcysutton have the final say.

Thanks, @laurieontech, and congratulations!! I just pushed the project up with that screenshot since we're about to get back on the road. We should arrive in Curitiba in about 5 hours. We'll be staying in a hotel there, so fingers crossed for more reliable WiFi!
