I hope we are all adults are are aware of injustices that happen(-ed) all over the world. ❤️

However, such topics are not a place in a technical opensource 🤖 , because it opens a loophole of similar ideas to be added to a README. Topics like as oppression, inequality, exploitation, ecological disaster, civil disobedience & war, territorial disputes, genocide, religion, sexual & gender rights, vaccination, animal protection...

These topics are often subjective & lead to endless debates 🔥. Depending on viewer's background & location some can be seen as more important than others. Emphasizing one topic over another can thus can be seen as splitting opensource community. Thats not what we want, right?

On the other hand, including all possible topics in README is not practical, it is not a public forum for such debates.

Unless these topics natively fit into specific area (like Contribution guide or Code of Conduct), I suggest to remove and not allow politically and socially charged statements in such technical documentation.

@acao yes, I have an issue, like I wrote - README is technical documentation and not a space for social or political debate. And code of conduct you're referring explicitly says "Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences". So please respect & enforce it, to not split opensource community because some similar topic was not added to README.

I can give topics that deserve to be in similar list too.
And I've linked URLs how you're splitting the community by having politics here

@acao is abusing his maintainership. Shame.

I really doubt that:

such topics are not a place in a technical opensource

It's clearly evident that supporting Ukraine on READMEs is everywhere.

Even github itself had "Support Ukraine" on the main page, not just a single README ...
github-ukraine

And I don't see that github/github users need to change the policy of supporting those in need.
But I see that stepping in front of justice for whatever reason is not Ok.

For what it’s worth, I also asked all over for approval just to add a message in support of ukraine the first week of the invasion and no one responded. A new process was put in place (as a result of all a small minority of the community demanding political correctness), but I don’t know if it’s working yet, or if I’m doing it right
