DR Enhanced tooltip discoverability testing needed to assess current design limitations
Decision Records: This is a record in the Decision Records on Solutions Adopted.
- Original Issue: Issue #1179 - users didn’t notice tooltips
- Other resulting issue: Issue #1219 - user test for tooltip discoverability
Tooltip is not visible to users as discovered in previous two rounds of testing. The UXR team and Design Team attempted to create solutions to this issue between rounds of testing however users still struggled with identifying tooltips. Therefore, the UXR team determined that a more focused testing on Tooltip discoverability is needed to determine why this issue has not been resolved in the previous two rounds of testing. The UXR team determined that a more focused testing on Tooltip discoverability will help determine why this issue has not been resolved in the previous two rounds of testing. This will be done by having the design team create more iterations of tooltips and test with users to determine which design is most visible to the user. After the previous two rounds of testing, UXR team conducted dogfooding testing for tooltip discoverability to see if we should go back to the drawing board or can move to full scale end user testing.
Internal testing/Dogfooding is more compatible with UXR team capacity at this stage of development. Additionally, it will be beneficial to have a fresh user group to test that is naive to the terms and site they will be tested on to have more generalized results that unfamiliar parties to the site will be able to understand.
