This introduces LOD tile loading for alternate projections to reduce the number of tiles being loaded near the poles. In some cases, this might reduce the number of tiles by almost half.
How it works: For each potential tile it creates two squares with the same area in mercator coordinates, one at the tile center and one at the map center. It reprojects them to the alternate projection and uses the ratio between these two areas to adjust the distance at which it splits the tile.
I added a bit of extra fudging to keep similarly sized tiles at the same zoom level.
