Using an internet stream as input (RTSP and HTTP)

Patrick McGuire edited this page May 30, 2022 · 1 revision

The BirdNET-Pi can accept its audio input from one of two sources at a time: a USB microphone/sound card, or an internet stream using the rtsp:// or http[s]:// protocols. This article is meant to help provide an example of how to input the RTSP or HTTP stream for analysis. For now, BirdNET-Pi can accept and analyze 1 (one) internet stream at a time.

  1. Go to "Tools" > "Settings" > "Advanced Settings" Screenshot from 2022-05-30 06-30-12 Screenshot from 2022-05-30 06-30-57 Screenshot from 2022-05-30 06-31-56

  2. Input the rtsp:// or http:///https:// URL as the "RTSP Stream" value and "Update Settings" Screenshot from 2022-05-30 06-55-02

  3. Finally, restart the core services in "Tools" > "Services" > "Restart Core Services"

To verify that your installation is using the internet stream for its input, visit your "Spectrogram" page to verify that the audio stream you hear is coming from the internet stream.

Happy birding!
