Java 17 is slated to be released around September 14, 2021 and given that it is an LTS release we should strive to support it as soon as possible.

This will hopefully be a pretty straightforward endeavor as most of the major breaking changes were accounted for with the following PRs to support Java 16:

Nonetheless we should investigate any changes that may have been introduced in Java 17.
