Definition (free text, with reference(s), please. PubMed ID format is PMID:XXXXXX)
A stromal cell of ovary that serves as precursors to the theca cell layers in growing ovarian follicles. This cell is characterized by its early-stage presence in smaller, growing follicles and its ability to differentiate into theca interna and theca externa cells as the follicle matures. Unlike mature theca cell, pre-theca cell is initially non-steroidogenic and lack luteinizing hormone receptors.
