Open Sans font installation failed #57070
Comments
Hi all- |
You just did, Eric :) Thank you for including your QGIS version and OS. It looks like the issue is already identified and we will simply have to wait until a fix is integrated. I am sure it will be in the next QGIS release. |
I had the same issue on installing version 3.34.5-1. |
This isn't available since Google removed the static downloads, we'll need another approach to handle this Refs google/fonts#7481 Refs qgis#57070

Note that not all fonts available from Google fonts are present on the github repo for some reason, eg Open Sans Condensed is not. Fixes qgis#57070

I have the same error on a new installation of QGIS 3.36.1 on Windows 11 Pro version 23H2 build 22631.3447 Curious though... aside from the error message, it doesn't seem to prevent anything from actually working, so do I need to worry about it or just wait for the update? |
No need to worry, just install the next version once available. |
The issue still occur using QGIS 3.38.0 (OSGeo4W) on Windows with a new QGIS user profile. |

If download-mechanism will not work anymore, would it be an alternative to install some of these fonts with the qgis setup? It could use the same mechanism as for the downloaded fonts, that means the fonts are placed as font-files in some directory and are recognized by qgis-application (and do not need to be installed for the operating system). |
Still an issue for a fresh install of QGIS on my re-imaged machine. Manually downloading and installing the font to QGIS Version 3.34.11-Prizren (long-term release) |

Additional context
The font download mechanism was introduced with #49020.
It seems something changed in how the URL https://fonts.google.com/download used for the font download works. Please see https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/ticket/824 and google/fonts#7481.
