Did the compiler complain about the varargs or what was wrong with the Alternatives-implementation?

Hi, @PatrickGotthard

Integer.parseInt(str) is unnecessary

I just thought about it once again. We should leave the test as-is until we finally remove the URL support in XmlReader

Hi @antoniosanct,

looks good overall, but why did you replace the Alternatives-implementation?

Patrick

@antoniosanct I like the Alternatives implementation better 🙃
Even the Stream.of method you used is using varargs and is annotated with @SafeVarargs, so there's no real difference.

Please add @SafeVarargs to the Alternatives.firstNotNull method and maybe replace the existing method implementation with your Stream-based approach.

Hi @antoniosanct,

looks good now, should I merge it?

Hi, @PatrickGotthard
It's a good chance in a future 2.x version. In fact, this branch has full java8-11 compatibility. In other case, I've a master_java8 branch to master, and the rest of changes (in java11 compatibility case) will be included in a future 2.x or 3.x version.
Let's wait to another opinions about it and if you want, include it when you get the best chance.
Regards,
Antonio.

Am I missing something? 🤔

All changes should be backwards-compatible so I would merge them and release version 2.1.0 soon.

Hi, @PatrickGotthard

It doesn't have changes on tests, then I think that this branch has backwards-compatible. In other case, how do I verify easily? With another artifact that have dependencies with ROME?

Regards,
Antonio.

I have now merged the changes. There was nothing backwards-incompatible.

In summary you have:

  • removed redundant interface declarations,
  • removed unused imports,
  • replaced deprecated code (reflection),
  • and optimized the code (e.g. Integer.valueOf(str) instead of new Integer(str))

Thanks for your contribution 👍

### [`v42.6.0`](https://github.com/pgjdbc/pgjdbc/blob/HEAD/CHANGELOG.md#4260-2023-03-17-153434--0400)

##### Changed

fix: use PhantomReferences instead of `Obejct.finalize()` to track Connection leaks [MR #2847](pgjdbc/pgjdbc#2847)

The change replaces all uses of Object.finalize with PhantomReferences.
The leaked resources (Connections) are tracked in a helper thread that is active as long as
there are connections in use. By default, the thread keeps running for 30 seconds after all
the connections are released. The timeout is set with pgjdbc.config.cleanup.thread.ttl system property.

refactor:(loom) replace the usages of synchronized with ReentrantLock [MR #2635](pgjdbc/pgjdbc#2635)
Fixes [Issue #1951](pgjdbc/pgjdbc#1951)

- Introduce `LazyArgLogger` to allow for lazy evaluation of log messages in slf4j logging. ([#1565](diffplug/spotless#1565))

##### Fixed

- Allow multiple instances of the same npm-based formatter to be used by separating their `node_modules` directories. ([#1565](diffplug/spotless#1565))
