@thurstonian | Simon Gordon Edward Thurston

I spent over 50k on an unfinished computer science degree and all I got was this lousy GitHub page.

👋 Hey all, I'm Simon. I'm a former CS/ECE student from Rowan University in the good ol' New Jers of Ey. Currently based out of Philly and doing work in Information Systems.

About Me

I've been programming things for a long time, since I was in grade school. As such, I've got a broad programming skillset. Though, through my time learning Electrical Engineering in college, I've dipped my toes into just about every layer of computing technology there is. At this point though, I'm mostly focused on building internal tooling for my workplace, and tinkering with my homelab.

I like to focus on writing smaller, modular utilities as opposed to larger more monolithic programs. Gotta love that Unix Philosophy. Typically I make little tools as wrappers for daily task with AutoHotkey, or PowerShell scripts for automating tedious AD workflows. I've also previously given talks about Git and Version Control at Rowan's ProfHacks, as well as (in a different year) participating and winning 3rd place for a digital signboard utility using SMB and Raspberry Pis.

Currently I'm working on learning:

  • Web Development (primarily JavaScript and other frontend stuff, as I've previously built backend systems using Shuttle)
  • Network Architecture for my HomeLab and soon-to-be-selfhosted website
  • Docker, Kubernetes, and containerization in general

Anyways feel free to browse my repos, and clone whatever you'd like. It's here for a reason after all.

Stuff I use for Work

Stuff I use at Home

You're already here, silly!

Stuff I hope to learn eventually
