Installation

Option 1

Download and install the Trakt plugin for Mediaportal here. http://www.team-mediaportal.com/extensions/trakt

Option 2

This plugin can be installed via "MediaPortal's Extension Installer" Special Note If you are using MediaPortal's Extension Installer and using MediaPortal v1.1.x then don't click the Update button!. Instead click on Install button and select the latest compatible version MediaPortal 1.2 users can click on Update or click Install

Configuration

This plugin can be configured via Mediaportal GUI or via the Mediaportal Plugin Configuration. Mediaportal GUI:

Firstly, you need to create, or login to a previously created account you have already created at the trakt.tv website.

  • Click TRAKT from Basic Home / Standard Home
  • Click SETTINGS
  • Click ACCOUNT SETUP
  • Click CREATE NEW, or LOGIN TO EXISTING
  • Follow the prompts, after done, go back to the main trakt screen.

Next, you need to select which plugins you would like Trakt to communicate with

  • Click SETTINGS
  • Click PLUGINS
  • Select any or all of the plugins shown.
  • Go back to the main trakt screen

Lasty, you can now modify the GENERAL SETTINGS for the plugin

  • Click SETTINGS
  • Click GENERAL

Description of Available Settings:

  • Download Fanart - this will download fanart for movies and shows etc.
  • Download Original Sized Fanart - this will download the above Fanart in the best quality available, it will not be resized and reduced, so will be of a better quality image.
  • Get Friends Requests on Startup - if selected, you will be prompted to approve or deny a friend request made via the trakt.tv site
  • Create Moving Pictures Categories - The trakt plugin will create a trakt root category with two sub-nodes, one for your Recommendations and one for your Watch List. Categories/Filters are updated on startup and every sync interval (by default every 24hrs).
  • Create Moving Pictures Filters - The trakt plugin will add to the moving pictures filters category, a trakt entry which will allow you to filter any category, like all movies, by your trakt watch or recommendations list

Using the Plugin

Calender

The Calender has 3 views which can be accessed using the Menu

  • My Shows - Shows all episodes airing for series you have in your collection
  • Premieres - Shows Episode 1 premiere date for all Seasons of all Shows airing.
  • All Shows - Shows all the airing dates for all shows

You can also change the 'Start Date' for which the Calender will begin listing its shows

  • Today (Default)

  • Yesterday

  • 1 Week Ago

  • 2 Weeks Ago

  • 1 Month Ago

Friends

For Friends you have added, you can view the following information

  • Watched Episodes - Episodes they have finished watching

  • Watched Movies - Movies they have finished watching

  • Show Watch List - Series they have added to their watch list

  • Movie Watch List - Movies they have added to their watch list

  • Episode Watch List - Episodes theyhave added to their watch list

There is now the ability to manage your Friends list from within this Plugin, by using the Menu in Friends, the following is Available

  • Search for Friend - ability to search for new friends and send friend requests to them.

  • Delete Friend - delete the selected friend from your friends list

Recommendations

In this screen, you can see Movies and Shows which have been recommend to you, this list is generated from the trakt.tv recommendation engine.

When viewing Recommended Movies or Shows, you have the following Menu Options

  • Add / Remove from Watch List - add or delete this from your watch list

  • Trailers - view a trailer online for the movie or show

  • Rate Movie / Show - Add a rating

  • Shouts - write a shout about the movie or show

  • Change Layout - Switch between LIST, ICONS, BIG ICONS or FILMSTRIP views.

Trending

Trending Movies and Trending Shows is essentially what people are watching right now, for each movie and series, you can see how many people are watching it, how many votes it has and what the rating is.

If you click on a movie or show you dont have, it will parse it to Online Videos and look for a trailer. If you have that movie or show, and you click on it, it will play that movie or show.

  • Mark as Watched - Only for movies, you can mark that movie as already watched

  • Add / Remove from Watch List - add or delete this from your watch list

  • Trailers - view a trailer online for the movie or show

  • Rate Movie / Show - Add a rating

  • Shouts - write a shout about the movie or show

  • Change Layout - Switch between LIST, ICONS, BIG ICONS or FILMSTRIP views.

Watch List

In this menu, there are 3 Categories to view what you have added, or remove what you have previously added to watch lists via this plugin and or the trakt.tv website.

  • Movie Watch List

  • Show Watch List

  • Episode Watch List

Special Note for Movies:

If you have a movie locally and its in your watch list, you can see those items in Moving Pictures, TRAKT menu if you have enabled "Create Moving Pictures Categories" in settings.

The following are the menu options available in the Watch List menu.

  • Mark as Watched - Only for movies, you can mark that movie as already watched

  • Remove from Watch List - add or delete this from your watch list

  • Trailers - view a trailer online for the movie or show

  • Rate Movie / Show - Add a rating

  • Shouts - write a shout about the movie or show

  • Change Layout - Switch between LIST, ICONS, BIG ICONS or FILMSTRIP views.

Moving Pictures Additional Integration

One feature of the Trakt Plugin is it integrates into moving pictures, which is detailed below

First, enable the below in Trakt plugins settings, either via Trakt Plugin Configuration or via the Trakt Mediaportal GUI

“Create Moving Pictures Categories”

Moving Picture Categories

Bascially, this will add the Trakt watch list and Trakt Movie Recommendations into Moving Pictures, as a category, and will show you movies from your recommended or watch list, that are available to play in moving pictures right now.

Moving Pictures Filters

This will add, under Filters a “TRAKT’ option which gives you the ability to filter any category such as All Movies, by either your trakt recommendation or watch list

Add to Watch List, Rate and Shouts

This requires skin support, and will allow you to access, via the hidden menu, for any movie, in the moving-pictures movie details screen, “Rate”, “Shouts” and “Add to Watch List”. The following is the hidden menu from streamedmp
