removeparam starting with tilde without regex

I wrote something like $removeparam=~foo, where ~foo is the literal parameter I want to remove. But that actually removes all parameters except for foo.

I know that $removeparam=/^~foo=/ works, but can this be done without the regex form?

params always start with ? or &, else it's invalid

Like is there any way to escape the ~ or something? I tried using a backslash, but that didn't work.

You have to use the regex form for that case: $removeparam=/^\x7efoo=/

Is there a specific reason that you used \x7e instead of ~? I didn't think ~ had any special meaning inside the regex.

No special reason beside failing to think properly, you're right, ~ would have worked as well.

| is deprecated though, support for this syntax will be removed eventually -- it's not part of the official documentation.
