Setting up a new machine

In the beginning

Drop box (via homebrew cask)

Launchbar (via homebrew cask)

1Password (via homebrew cask)

Basics:

Run setup.sh

• copies in all dotfiles
• copies in all shell scripts
• corrects fetchmail permissions
• installs brew
• installs brew cask items
• installs brew items

PATH

Edit /etc/paths:

Postfix

Config files

• Add gmail settings to /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd
  • “work-email work-email:<work-password>”
  • “[smtp.gmail.com]:587 <username>:<password>”
• execute sudo postmap /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd"
• Add gmail settings to /etc/postfix/sender_relay
  • “work-email [smtp.gmail.com]:587”
  • “home-email [smtp.gmail.com]:587”
• execute sudo postmap /etc/postfix/sender_relay
• append the following to /etc/postfix/main.cf

Start on boot

• cp /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.postfix.master.plist /Library/LaunchDaemons
• edit file to:
  • change the label
  • remove -e 60 arguments
  • add <key>KeepAlive<key/><true/>
• launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.postfix.master.plist

FetchMail

• copy .netrc
• copy .ssl directory into place
• exucute c_rehash ~/.ssl/certs (c_rehash is in brew’s Cellar/openssl
• execute cp $SRC/Files/mark.fetchmail.plist ~/Library/LaunchAgents
• execute launchctl load ~/Library/LaunchAgents/mark.fetchmail.plist

GPG Keys

Copy keys from other machine

SSH Keys

Copy keys from other machine or create new.

Misc MacOSX defaults

• defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
• defaults write com.apple.finder QuitMenuItem -bool YES
• defaults write com.google.Chrome ExternalProtocolDialogShowAlwaysOpenCheckbox -bool true
• defaults write com.apple.symbolichotkeys AppleSymbolicHotKeys -dict-add 70 '<dict><key>enabled</key><false/></dict>' (globally disable CTRL-CMD-D (open dictionary definition)

Emacs:

• link emacs from brew into /Applications
• Add as custom list item in Launchbar

Flow
