First let's get sorted out #163 and then see how to implement this, maybe this should be optional feature not forced one.

Ah, yes i proposed that in the doc for #163. Didn't looked at this one first.

It seems obvious, but in an other comment you where reluctant to add new global parameters. So it is up to you, even if the global option seems fair.

if you mean the enabling/disabling edit link to the documentation / repository feature, then that effect is possible to achieve by simply setting or commenting out path variable in the config file.
In the end - one variable instead of two.
