Syncing Strategy for Different Environments

To synchronize the dev, staging, and prod environments, follow these steps:

  1. Raise a pull request (PR) from the dev branch to the staging branch. Once the changes are verified, proceed to merge them from staging to prod.

When merging features from a feature branch to the dev branch, consider the following:

  • If there are too many non-relevant commits (e.g., debugging commits or unnecessary changes), squash and merge to avoid polluting the branch history.
  • When merging from dev to staging or staging to prod, do not squash. Squashing creates a new commit, which doesn't transfer the commits from dev to staging, thus failing to synchronize the branches effectively. Instead, use a merge commit to sync the staging and prod branches.

Follow these additional steps:

  1. Create a release from the dev branch.
  2. Merge changes from dev into staging.
