Using Microsoft Azure

Microsoft Azure is accredited for UK Government OFFICIAL data, which includes Personal information which falls under the protection of the Data Protection Act (1998) (which includes, for example, data such as health records).. See http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ukgovernment/archive/2014/06/11/faq-what-microsoft-azure-and-microsoft-office-365-official-accreditation-means-for-your-organisation.aspx

Azure Awards

As part of this programme we are offering Microsoft Azure Awards for research projects to develop, deploy and test ideas on the cloud. We offer 12 month awards of up to 180,000 compute core hours and 20TB f cloud storage each, worth around £25,000 GBPs. We currently support over 300 projects worldwide, and are keen to see many more from the research software engineering community.

The next deadline is 15th October 2014, and then every two months. We turnaround proposal decisions in a couple of weeks, so successful applicants can be up and running within about a month of applying.

More details, including how to apply via a short 1000 word online proposal, are at http://www.azure4research.com. Please feel free to email me ([email protected]) directly for advice on how to put together a successful proposal.
