Subject: Improving the SecureDrop user experience From: [email protected] Dear SecureDrop user, TL;DR: You can help improve the SecureDrop user experience with a 30 minute interview, please contact us at [email protected]! Why do you need my help? The SecureDrop team is constantly fighting two battles: security and usability. Every security improvement means more usability challenges[1]. The SecureDrop UX team is actively looking for feedback from SecureDrop users to ensure it evolves in a user centered way. [2] As a journalist using SecureDrop, you can help by taking part in a 30 minute interview[3] conducted by Bernard Tyers[4], a member of the SecureDrop UX team. What happens after the interview? A transcript may be generated during the interview. Should this happen, it will be fully redacted and anonymized before being shared. How will this help me? With these interviews we can better understand the mental model of a SecureDrop user and adapt the conceptual model of the system accordingly. [5] OK, I want to help. Now what happens? Scheduling an interview is simple: just send a mail to [email protected]. We prefer to meet in person, if possible, but an encrypted video or voice conversation also works fine. Sincerely, [1] http://www.jnd.org/dn.mss/when_security_gets_in_the_way.html [2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User-centered_design [3] https://lab.securedrop.club/main/ux/wikis/SecureDrop-User-Interview-Script [4] http://www.ei8fdb.org/thoughts/ [5] https://uxmag.com/articles/the-secret-to-designing-an-intuitive-user-experienceDear SecureDrop admin,
