Notes for design review

  • 2 things are missing (coming in another PR): +/- buttons for zooming, and "Expand map" tooltip on hover.
  • What colour should the close button be in the dark theme?

Note for code review
Any comments on the use of contain: unset and (especially) position: unset are welcome. Without these I could not get the dialog close button to display outside of the dialog. I have tested and I don't think it messes up the layout of the dialog, but if you can think of any reason why this is a terrible idea, alternative suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Awesome! For dark theme, we can use white: Primary/Dark for the close button

yeah except instead of rotate/download it'd be zoom controls maybe

Yes but we'd need to get rid of all the image controls plus avatar name etc. So the only element visible should be the map and the close button

OK, after further discussion with @gaelledel and @jakewb-b , design would like it to stay the way it looks in this PR, with a plan in future to give the image view a similar look.

Thank you for spotting this! Turns out my syntax was wrong. Instead of :not(.a || .b) I should have used :not(.a, .b) but in fact MDN says that is not supported in all browsers, so I switched to :not(.a):not(.b).

That in turn made the selector more specific than e.g. .mx_Dialog button.mx_Dialog_primary so I had to add a couple more :nots.

All this is in 1e1efcf

I'm confused. f49da8b is supposed to fix this, and it works for me (on netlify):

Is there anything I need to do to use this? I enabled the feature in labs, but it draws an empty map:

And there's a warning in the console:

WebGL warning: texImage: Alpha-premult and y-flip are deprecated for non-DOM-Element uploads.

Tested in Firefox Nightly.

I am guessing it's problem with browser permissions to get your location.

@lnicola if you're not using develop.element.io then you will need to configure the API Key via config.json

Soonish, we will support getting map tile server config from the homeserver via the .well-known mechanism, and matrix.org will provide a useful config, meaning you don't need to provide it in the client config.
