Instructions for remote participation

nithi89 edited this page Sep 27, 2015 · 13 revisions

For remote discussions we use the videoconferencing software PlaceCam. Thanks to daviko for sponsoring! PlaceCam is available for Linux, Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android.

Join the call

  • Before the meeting starts, we will send a URL via the corresponding mailing list. Open this URL in your web browser.
  • Windows/MacOS users: If you didn't install PlaceCam so far, you will be directed automatically to the application. Just follow the installation instructions.
  • Linux users: Linux users have to install the software first before they can accept the invitation link. Recent versions are available here. If you are not a Ubuntu/Debian user, you'll have to install the MIME type extension in your browser manually or just call PlaceCam from a shell with the given URI as a parameter.
Important: When using PulseAudio, please start the application with echo-cancellation like this: PULSE_PROP="filter.want=echo-cancel" ./PlaceCam/opt/PlaceCam/PlaceCam
  • Android users: Install the PlaceCam app from Google's play store. Once this is done, you can click on a participation link (for example in your mail client) to join the conference call.

During the call

  • Avoid noisy places.
  • Please use a headset.
  • If you cannot use a headset, try to avoid acoustic echo (and/or enable echo cancellation).
